Days 1-2: Arrival in Portisco
On arrival at the harbour, you're welcomed by the charter company for check-in, then taken to your boat. After a short briefing, you're free to relax. Portisco makes a lovely spot for a relaxed first evening. From here, it's around 15 nautical miles to the Maddalena Islands, a beautiful archipelago northeast of Sardinia, known for stunning beaches and crystal-clear water that make it one of the region's most popular sailing destinations.
Days 3-4: Exploring the Maddalena Islands
A great stop in the Maddalena Islands is Spiaggia I Due Mari, a stunning starting point on the island of Caprera. From here, sail north to Spalmatore beach, easily recognised by the pink-tinged rocks around it, with a small harbour to moor in, a great spot for photos. Continue north to the famous Spiaggia Rosa, whose sand appears pink from fragments of coral and shell mixed into it, best seen from the water. Sail further north to the island of Santa Maria, dotted with old ruins and megalithic burial sites.
Days 5-6: Crossing to Corsica
Did you know you can sail from the Maddalena Islands to Corsica? From Santa Maria, it's less than 15 nautical miles to the southern tip of Corsica, so consider the crossing to Bonifacio for a night of French influence. You'll recognise the town as the setting for the film V for Vendetta. After visiting picturesque Bonifacio, cross back to the island of Spargi in the Maddalena Islands, part of the Maddalena National Park, home to many protected bird species and a maritime museum with Roman shipwreck artefacts.
Days 7-8: One last stop before heading home
A great final stop is the island of La Maddalena itself. Its capital, also called La Maddalena, is lively but compact, with plenty of quiet corners worth exploring. Then it's time to head back to Portisco for a final night; charter companies generally like guests back between 4pm and 6pm, giving you plenty of time for one last Italian feast before heading home the next day.
